This is what to expect from your first hypnotherapy session
You probably already know about the benefits of using hypnotherapy to create personal change – but what actually happens in a hypnotherapy session.
Well, before we ever meet for our first time together, we will have had an in depth chat about the challenges your currently facing, as well as your goals around the issue – so that we both understand the journey we are about to go on – taking you from when ever you are now, to where ever you want to be.
People sometimes have the idea they will be asleep or unaware of what’s happening – but that’s not the case. Throughout the whole hypnotic process your mind will be alert and active. And you’ll remember as much as you would from any normal conversation.
From TV and movies, some people get the idea that hypnosis is about some sort of loss of control. Maybe handing over control to me. Actually, the exact opposite is true. Hypnotherapy is about giving you back control of those parts of your life which feel like they are out of your control – whether that’s thoughts, feelings or behaviours. My job is as a guide, enabling you to make the changes you want to make.
How does it feel to be hypnotised? Well, there is no one right way to feel hypnotised. Some people feel a lovely floaty feeling, like they are floating comfortably on the air, other people have this wonderful relaxing feeling, like they are melting in to the chair. Of course this feeling isn’t why people come to see me – they come because they want to change something in their lives – but it’s a fantastic additional benefit that it’s relaxing and they leave feeling fantastic.
I will be talking to you throughout the whole process, and It’s a very simple process of following simple guidance – Sometimes I might ask you to imagine something – just imagine it as best you can, sometimes I might ask you to think about something – just think about it.
And sometimes people are surprised of how interactive the whole process is. You’ll be an active partner in the whole process – remember all the change is happening in you – I’m just guiding you to the right places so that you can make those changes.
What we actually work on during the session of course depends on your issue and your goals. Each session is fully customised based on you and what we’ve discussed – you’re unique and so is each session.
